  • Funding is intended to provide training that is not provided here at PSU.
  • Funding can be used to defray costs for the registration and travel costs associated with the summer workshop/summer School. These costs can include registrations fees, airfare/mileage, meals, and lodging based on actual costs (no per diem).
  • Please note that Penn State regulations regarding travel are subject to change considering the COVID-19 pandemic, so please take this into account when preparing a proposal. These funds can also be requested to attend a virtual workshop or summer school program.

Priority is given to proposals that articulate how the workshop/summer school will benefit /enhance the students’ graduate training and explain why this training cannot be obtained at Penn State.

Expectations for those who receive CLS funding:

  1. Please plan to reach out to Heather Mann (hmg108@psu.edu), within 2 weeks of receiving an award notice, with your plans for spending these funds.
  2. The amount of funding that you are awarded is a firm amount and cannot be increased. Please keep this in mind when attaching a budget to your funding application. If you need budgeting assistance, please reach out to Heather Mann for assistance at least 2 weeks before the funding application deadline.
  3. If you receive a travel award, please plan to work with Heather Mann (hmg108@psu.edu) and Brittany Glunt (bdg11@psu.edu) within 2 weeks of receiving your award notice to book airfare and lodging associated with your travel. Waiting until the last minute to book airfare and lodging will result in higher costs and less money available for other applicable expenses.
  4. Funds for workshops held in May 2025 must be processed with Heather Mann by June 10, 2025. Funds for workshops held in June, July or August 2025 must be processed with Heather within 30 days of the end of the workshop.
  5. If you are not able to use the funds you have been awarded, please notify Heather Mann asap so that the funds can be re-purposed.
