“Talking Black in America: Roots” documentary screening and discussion

In this special edition of our CLS Speaker Series, we will be screening the documentary Talking Black in America—Roots. This film is the third in a series of documentaries about African American language produced by NC State’s Language and Life Project. The film explores connections between “the peoples and societies of West Africa and the African Diaspora”, with a particular focus on language, and can be seen as “a celebration of African American resiliency, creativity, and ingenuity.” The screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by CLS faculty members Deborah Morton and Frances Blanchette as well as postdoctoral fellow Zach Maher.
