Research Interests:
The overarching goal is to develop evidence-based interventions to improve speech intelligibility (how understandable speech is) in people with dysarthria, a type of motor speech disorder. To reach this goal, we use a comprehensive approach that examines the critical relationships among three domains: 1) articulatory kinematics, 2) speech acoustics, and 3) speech intelligibility. A foundational understanding of the relationships among these domains is needed for developing effective interventions. Our lab utilizes a portable electromagnetic articulography to reach our research goal. We closely collaborate with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) clinic at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
