Dr. van Hell’s lab consults with area school about language learning

In the fall of 2014, Dr. Janet van Hell was asked to consult with the World Language Department of the State College Area School District (SCASD) on how to implement second language (L2) learning at the elementary school level. Her lab also presented research on classroom second language learners to World Language teachers at SCASD’s in-service day on October 31, 2014. Postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students also demonstrated a simulated neurocognitive experiment using the mobile EEG system, and projected a teacher's brain waves on the wall. The 25 teachers who attended the session were able to learn more about the science of second language acquisition and how research can inform practice.
