Biography:

Alex Koch is a first-year Ph.D. student in Applied German Linguistics. They graduated from Indiana University in 2022 with a degree in German and anthropology. They completed their master’s degree at University of Colorado Boulder in German studies. Here they wrote a M.A. thesis titled “Becoming Inclusive: an Intersectional Analysis of ZDF’s Becoming Charlie”. Alex is interested in the relationship between grammatical and social gender and how this is expressed through language.
