"Toward Equitable Language Therapy in Aphasia"

Dr. Chaleece Sandberg, Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Linguistics, and Neuroscience at Penn State

Friday, March 18, 2022, 9:00-10:30 am, via Zoom.

The field of speech-language pathology, especially in the US, is experiencing a critical health services disparity in the form of unequal access to appropriate services for residents who speak languages other than English. This threat to quality of life disproportionately affects historically marginalized groups. One barrier to resolving this disparity is the lack of appropriate therapy materials.

In this talk, Dr. Sandberg will present ongoing collaborative work aimed at increasing the availability of theoretically based, evidence-based, and culturally and linguistically appropriate therapies for individuals with aphasia who speak languages other thanEnglish.
